Wednesday 13th - Mis Mis Mis

  • hammering headwind north on the German west coast. Too hot. No water. Riding was slow and hard. Need to wash clothes and recover from yesterday’s monster day so getting a train from St Michaelsdonn to Toning.
  • Got it up to Husum instead. Campsite out of town by the north sea with crazy head winds. Big exposure at Husum.
  • Husum is nice town
  • Plan was to wash our clothes and have a rest afternoon but we didn’t, so will do washing in the morning.
  • Cat visited our tarp. Mis mis mis.

Not many photographs from this day. We had a rough morning riding north against the northerly winds. We decided to get a train up a bit and turn a six hour cycle against the wind into a one hour train ride. We were buggered from the previous day's relentless mileage and lack of dinner and cycling against the wind feels like pushing uphill, but without ever summiting. Train became the right thing, and instead of going to Tonning (where we aimed to cycle to) we thought we could hop up a little further north on the trainline to Husum, a nicer-looking seaside town. That was the vibe, campsite was as far west as the land would allow, about a twenty minute cycle out of Husum town, which was perched at the head of a small inlet from the North Sea. The exposure out by the campsite was intense. About as intense as any we had felt so far; brutal and untiring winds. We pitched up in the afternoon and head back into Husum for some dinner.

Cosied up and thinking about how there was only a few nights left to sleep on the ground and ride our bicycles when this little misse came to say hello.
