Friday 15th - The Last 100km

  • Final day. Breakfast in bed for Jake, consisting of freshly baked brød med øst, og en kaffe, og en kanelsnael, baked by the campsite owners. Would recommend campsite 10/10
  • Beautiful ride to Sønderborg. Hilly, tail wind, by the coast. Rolling ups and downs and really nice variation. Bike paths all good. Jake patched his tire / tube situation with a $5 USD note.
  • Stopped in Sønderborg at Lagerkaghusset for some coffee, pastry, overnight oats, and sandwich for later.
  • Ride to ferry was also nice, more of the same. Almost got on a ferry to æro. Ate our sandwiches on the ferry.
  • 3hr 10m to go when we reach the otherside.
  • Somehow with some pumping here and there, Jake’s rear wheel made it to Munkebo along with the rest of his bike and self and me too! Dinner with Julie’s family. No more riding tomorrow.

Final day; doing our thing. Really lovely riding from Southern Jutland across to Southern Fyn. We nearly took the wrong ferry, six hours to aero, but luckily we got on to Fyn at the last minute and saddled up for the final stretch.

How's the serenity?

Managed to get me this far.

Odense, the final checkpoint. Denmark's third largest city and the jewel in the crownpiece of Central Fyn. Photo above left shows the author outside of the town hall where he got married, and Jake admiring the craftsmanship of Danish sculpture work. Not far from home now, the final twenty kilometres were upon us.

We arrived in Munkebo, to a small but sweet welcome party. Somehow around a hundred kilometres was managed on Jake's rear tire with the help of the US $5 bill. This was not going to last much longer.

Game, set, match. The bulbous end of Ketermindefjord in the background. We had made it to Nord Fyn, to a bed that we did not have to inflate. To awake to a day of walking and sitting, instead of sitting and cycling. Happy days. The sad inevitability that our northbound comradeship was soon to be behind us. Nothing lasts forever. I finally had something to blog about.
