Thursday 14th - Home Stretch
- had to get washing detergent from humus
- Dryer took forever
- Switched saddles, ready to set off but late in the day.
- About to leave the west coast, and the north sea for the last time!
- Jake got a big piece of glass in his tire outside of Flensburg. Inner tube went in okay but there’s a good gash in the tire still. Bike shop helped with indexing his drivetrain, but problems still persist.
- Crossed Danish border and arrived at lovely campsite in Krusa. Home stretch. Country #6.. Bounced on the trampolines at campsite. Spoke in Danish and felt like I was really starting my new chapter.
- At this stage bodies are telling us to stop, but for the most part fully adjusted to actually riding with a lot of previous aches and pains not appearing. It’s just accumulated fatigue that pulls us down through the day and when arriving at camp.
- Spoke to Pietro when in bed. He didn’t get fired!
The big mamba tooth that went into Jake's rear tire. This was quite a marvel to watch as sealant was spraying out as the wheel whipped around and around. Left about a 10-15mm gash in Jake's tire. Somehow a spare tube went in, inflated, and held up whilst we cycled the last ten kilometres to Flensburg. This was an iconic destination for us as it marked our eastward bearing away from The North Sea, which indicated the final stretch towards central Denmark. Flensburg is close to the German / Danish border and hosts a significant Danish population and influx of Danish tourists throughout the year. Getting to Flensburg would mark the start of the end of the trip.
No tubeless patch kits, but they did have a fiddle with Jake's indexing.
Basement Indian restaurant. Cold Flensburger beer and he let us put the bike's inside the restaurant. Legendary.
After dinner digestion ride to the Danish border. Country 6/6. Vibes are high.
First and only Danish campsite. Lovely people, lovely campsite tbh. Another beer and a moment of rest and reflection.
Locals report; two small children rocketing away from the Earth's surface. Team Rocket style.
Liabilities killed the cat.
